Lauchenoirian Presidential Election: Results (Second Round)

The following indicates the percentage of votes won by each candidate in the second round of the presidential election:

Alberto Causer, Conservative Party – 35.8% Alex Marwick, Lauchenoirian Democratic Alliance – 64.2%

Alex Marwick of the Lauchenoirian Democratic Alliance will be the new President of Lauchenoiria after an unprecedented election that has shaken the landscape of Lauchenoirian politics. At 29, Marwick will be the youngest-ever President, and as a member of the LDA will be the first president from outside of the main parties. With 64.2% of the vote, he has won in a landslide that will come as unexpected to many.

Many Communist Party and Left Alliance supporters were disappointed that what some see as the two most pro-capitalism candidates reached the second round. Some supporters of the Communists boycotted the second round of the election, however their leader Javier Flynn was seen going to vote, as was their failed presidential candidate Ruben Page. Turnout was down slightly on the first round; however, this cannot necessarily be attributed to the Communists.

Mr Marwick, a popular figure among those who supported the Lauchenoirian Resistance during last year’s war, thanked his supporters in a speech, promising to do his best to unite Lauchenoiria and help the country to come together and move forward in the wake of last year’s civil war. He reiterated his pledge to seek more trade deals with other nations, and to ensure that no Lauchenoirian is left behind as the country moves forward.

Liberal leader, and probable next Prime Minister, Josephine Alvarez congratulated Mr Marwick, saying that she looked forward to working with him in the future. The Liberals’ own presidential candidate Nina Pond narrowly lost out on a place in the second round by 0.1%. Alvarez continues to meet with leaders of other parties in an attempt to form a coalition following the parliamentary elections two weeks ago.
