Former President Zacharias Castovia revealed Thursday morning during a ZSuites Inc. press release that he had launched an exploratory committee into the 2020 election, signifying that he's preparing to jump back into the realm of politics after resigning from the presidency in January 2019.

The former President resigned in January following an intense congressional investigation into his personal friendship with his company's CEO, Tauren Delavian. While he was not charged with any crimes or misdemeanors, his Chief of Staff Ava Booth was found guilty of accepting bribes in turn for trading and promising executive action on wants from congressional assets. However, Castovia noted during his resignation address that he would still remain active in lobbying and political activism, and made sure to mention that he may one day attempt to return to the political sphere.

Castovia has one of the highest approval ratings of any politician in modern Zamastan at 71% at the end of 2018, beating his successor: incumbent President Anya Bishop (high-52%, low-22%), and even his father, President Cassious Castovia (high-67%, low-43%), and was seen as a highly consequential president during his time in office. He brought Zamastan back into the IDU in 2017 following a break designated by the elder Castovia in 2015, and introduced legislation that improved civil rights and freedoms for Zamastanian citizens, including recreational marijuana, gun reform measures, and increased immigration. He also worked to lower taxes in the midst of a rising privatized economy, resulting in one of the largest economic booms in Zamastanian history. Housing prices during the junior Castovia administration reached historic lows, and global trading resulted in Zamastan becoming one of the largest technological economies in the International Democratic Union. These will be areas that supporters will no doubt praise.

However, areas of criticism are not far out of reach. Castovia presided over severe military escalation against the Malvarian Liberation Front in Vulkaria following many terror attacks in Zamastan. The attackers were M.L.F. fighters who entered the country as immigrants weeks prior to the attack, and much of the critisim which could be stemmed from the increased immigration acceptance. Castovia also oversaw a 2 week long military campaign in Zamastan's northern neighbor Gladysynthia, which led to the deaths of 486 Zamastanian soldiers. The war, known as the Gladysynthian Crisis, was heavily rebuked by fellow members of the IDU such as Laeral, United New England, and Sanctaria, and Castovia was painted as a war monger.

In addition to military criticism, Castovia's obvious scandal with CEO Tauren Delavian is sure to cast a shadow on any possible return to politics. His abrubt resignation after being cleared on all charges led to intense scrutiny and a political vacuum that resulted in Anya Bishop, currently the lowest approval ranking president of modern time, becoming elected in the wake of the controversy.
